Dear General—

Conway tells me that you kindly offered to add me to your party to attend President Grèvy’s reception on Thursday evening. As a general thing I don’t most always believeⒶemendation everything Conway says, but if in an unguarded moment he has slipped up & told the truth this time, I assure you I accept your invitation with a great many thanks.

Truly Yours
S. L. Clemens.
