Dear Charley—
My instructions—if you think well of the idea—to–wit: If you can devise a hold on Rose that will make him keep his word, accept his offer. One can not trust his mere word. I don’t know how to tie him fast to it, but maybe you do. A bond & money–forfeit, for instance? Think it out & tell me your plan.

I think his proposition indicates two things: 1. that our Canadian copyright is strong, this time; & 2, that he wants the Grant book.
